What is a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) Medical Check-Up?

Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) Medical Check-Up is a routine health examination required for LTVP applicants to ensure they meet Singapore’s health standards before approval.

A Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) medical check-up is a standard health screening required as part of the pass application or renewal process in Singapore. This assessment is conducted according to guidelines set by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) or the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

The check-up is designed to confirm that applicants are in good health and that conditions such as infectious diseases are identified and managed early. By doing so, it ensures the well-being of the applicant, while also safeguarding Singapore’s wider community.

Who needs a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) Medical Check-Up?

Not everyone applying for an LTVP will automatically undergo a medical check-up. But for many applicants, it is a compulsory step. Those who typically require the examination include:

GROUPSELIGIBILITIES

Foreign spouse of a Singapore Citizen

To better understand your chances of obtaining an LTVP, you can take the Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment (PMLA) before marriage.
Couples who complete the PMLA enjoy a shorter LTVP processing time of six weeks, compared with the standard processing of up to six months. The PMLA is free of charge.
After marriage, your spouse must log in to ICA e-Service using Singpass to sponsor your application.

Spouse of a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)
Your spouse can sponsor your LTVP by logging in to ICA e-Service using Singpass.

Parent of a Singapore Citizen or PR
Note: Parents-in-law are not eligible.
If your Singapore Citizen or PR child is 21 or older, they must log in to ICA e-Service using Singpass to sponsor your application. If your Singapore Citizen or PR child is under 21, a local sponsor who is a Singapore Citizen or PR aged 21 and above is required. This sponsor can log in to ICA e-Service using Singpass.

Graduate from an Institute of Higher Learning Seeking Employment in Singapore
You can submit your LTVP application via the non-Singpass option on ICA e-Service.

Parent or Grandparent of a Child Studying in Singapore on a Student’s Pass

Only one applicant (either parent or grandparent) may apply. A local sponsor who is a Singapore Citizen or PR aged 21 and above is required. They can log in to ICA e-Service using Singpass to sponsor the application.

A local sponsor who is a Singapore Citizen or PR aged 21 and above is required. They must log in to ICA e-Service using Singpass to sponsor the application.

Applicants who have received In-Principle Approval (IPA)
After an LTVP application is approved in principle, applicants are usually required to complete the medical check-up before the pass is issued.

This requirement may vary depending on your circumstances. So, it is important to review your In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter carefully or consult a clinic familiar with LTVP procedures.

What can you expect from a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) Medical Check-Up?

Every LTVP medical check-up follows a clear sequence to ensure all health requirements are assessed and documented. While the exact procedures may vary slightly, most check-ups include the following stages:

Check-in

When you arrive at the clinic, the first step is registration. You will need to:

  • Present your passport or FIN card for identification
  • Bring your IPA letter or any forms requested by ICA or MOM
  • Inform the staff of any current medical conditions or medications you are taking

Preparing these documents ahead of time will help the process move quickly and smoothly.

Health assessment

The doctor will carry out a general health review, which usually covers:

  • Eye assessment checking vision clarity and colour perception
  • Blood pressure measurement to identify any potential cardiovascular concerns
  • Physical check a full-body assessment to detect any health issues or mobility concerns

If there are pre-existing conditions that could affect eligibility, the doctor may recommend additional checks.

Diagnostic tests

Some applicants are required to undergo further testing, which can include:

  • Blood work to screen for conditions such as diabetes, anaemia, or infectious diseases
  • Chest X-ray commonly done to rule out tuberculosis

Results from these tests may take a few days to become available.

Form completion

Once examinations are done, the doctor will:

  • Complete the official medical forms required by ICA or MOM
  • Summarise your findings to confirm whether you meet health standards
  • Provide advice or follow-up if any concerns are identified

Receiving your report

After the check-up:

  • You will be given a hard copy of your medical report
  • This report must be submitted to the relevant authorities, such as ICA
  • If additional tests are conducted, you may need to return to collect the final report once results are ready

Most people can continue with their day immediately after the appointment, making the LTVP medical check-up a quick and efficient process.

Receiving and understanding your results

The LVTP medical check-up ensures applicants are healthy and meet Singapore’s entry requirements, helping protect both personal and public health.

After your LTVP medical check-up, the time it takes to receive your results depends on the type of tests conducted. Most standard check-ups yield results within 1 to 4 working days.

Once your results are ready, our doctor will review them with you and explain what they mean:

  • Normal results if all tests are within the expected range, your medical form will be certified as complete and ready for submission to ICA or MOM.
  • Abnormal results if any condition, infection, or irregularity is detected, your doctor will guide you through the findings. They will outline the next steps, which may include additional tests, treatment options, or lifestyle recommendations to address the issue.

This process ensures you fully understand your health status and are well-prepared for any follow-up actions before submitting your medical report.

Why is it important to undergo a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) Medical Check-Up?

Completing the LTVP medical check-up is not only a mandatory step for approval but also an important opportunity to confirm your overall health. Beyond meeting ICA or MOM requirements, the examination helps identify any underlying conditions that might require attention. Detecting and managing communicable diseases early protects not only your well-being but also safeguards the wider community.

Additionally, the check-up provides reassurance and clarity. Knowing that your health has been thoroughly assessed can reduce stress and help you plan for the future with confidence. For applicants with pre-existing conditions, the process also allows for timely guidance on managing these issues effectively, ensuring that you stay healthy while meeting official requirements.
