In Singapore, the 6-Monthly Medical Examination (6ME) is a mandatory health screening mandated by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for all work permit holders employed as domestic workers. The screening is to monitor the medical fitness of all female migrant domestic workers. This check-up helps to detect infectious diseases, chronic conditions, and pregnancy early, supporting both the health of the helper, and the safety of the household she’s part of.
The 6ME screening is not just a legal formality as it is a proactive health measure that benefits both domestic workers, and employers. Through regular monitoring, it helps to:
The health screening consists of specific tests that must be conducted at regular intervals. These include:
SCREENING TYPE | FREQUENCY | PURPOSE |
General Health Assessment | Every 6 months. | Includes height, weight, blood pressure checks, and general wellbeing. |
Pregnancy Test | Every 6 months. | Detects early pregnancy. |
Tuberculosis (TB) via chest X-ray | Every 2 years. | Screens for active tuberculosis. |
HIV, and Syphilis (VDRL) Tests | Every 2 years. | Detects blood-borne infections. |
To ensure a smooth, and efficient experience during a 6ME check-up, we at Phoenix Medical recommend preparing the following documents, and items in advance. This helps avoid unnecessary delays, and ensures we can process, and submit the results to the MOM without issue.
DOCUMENTS | PURPOSE |
6ME Notification Letter from MOM (if available) | MOM will usually send a letter or electronic notification to inform employers when their helper’s 6ME is due. Please bring a printed or digital copy of this letter if you have received it. It contains important reference details for our clinic to process the check-up accurately. |
The Domestic Worker’s Original Work Permit | This is a mandatory requirement. The original work permit (not a photocopy or screenshot) helps us verify the identity of the domestic worker, and ensure her employment details match MOM’s records. |
A Copy of the Employer’s NRIC (for verification purposes) | To confirm the employer’s identity, and link them to the domestic helper, a photocopy or digital image of the NRIC is needed. This step helps us maintain accurate records, and comply with MOM regulations. |
Helper’s Personal Identification (if applicable) | Although the work permit is sufficient in most cases, bringing additional identification (such as a passport or foreign ID) can help avoid any issues in rare cases where verification is required. |
At Phoenix Medical Group, we have streamlined the 6ME process to ensure it is efficient, respectful, and fully compliant with MOM Singapore requirements. Here is what you can expect during, and after your visit.
